podcasting support
As with other iPods, songs are transferred from
Apple's slick iTunes software, which in Version 5 boasts a few new
tricks. One of them allows parents to disable podcasts and restrict
explicit content.
The Nano is light and unobtrusive. The Nano, Apple
changed from using a tiny hard drive in favor of flash memory chips
that have been used in other portable players, including the iPod
Shuffle. Not only does flash let designers keep the player small,
but it's also less prone to skipping.
Flash does slow down the transfer process a bit
compared with hard-drive-based iPods. Apple says you can transfer
about one song per second with the Nano, vs. two songs per second
with the bigger iPods. That speed assumes you can take advantage
of the USB 2.0 cable that comes with the Nano.
You can also connect the Nano to the Bose and
several other iPod accessories, though not all of them. It has the
standard iPod dock connector but not all the other appropriate jacks.
